Project description
Foodex24 is a convenient online supermarket with its own storage and delivery system. The client came up with the idea of eCommerce website development during the quarantine due to COVID-19. For its customers, the website and the entire service work in the following way. A user selects food items they want to buy, chooses the delivery type, and forms an order. When the call center gets an order notification, they call a customer to approve the order. Finally, the customer gets their order within the timeline they have chosen.
Industry: | Food Retail |
Platforms: | Web, Mobile |
Role: | Software developer |
Tech Stack: | Python, Laravel, React.js, Flutter, Bolt API, Turbo SMS, Pushbullet |
Problem introduction
The main problem that drove the client to this project idea of eCommerce development was the pandemic and the quarantine due to it. The worldwide situation with COVID-19 led to the lockdown and fear to appear in public places, especially in transport and offline stores. Online orders boosted in many industries including food retail. However, the existing delivery services partner with offline supermarkets and are limited in terms of time and order volume. Therefore, Foodex24 appeared as an independent online supermarket with its own delivery and food storage systems to protect people from risks they could take in public places. After the quarantine ends, the service will remain popular because it’s convenient and time-saving. Foodex24 is about no lines, no heavy bags to carry on your own, no limits in order volume as it’s delivered by cars, no time wasted as you can just click the items you need on the site. Just a perfect service that the 21st century deserves.
Main goals
- Up and run eCommerce website with convenient UI
- Admin interface for call center, marketers, category managers
- Develop a built-in delivery system including own mobile application for drivers
- Provide a real-time notification system through the entire platform to meet a 90-minute delivery requirement
- Implement an advanced CI/CD solution to provide high-level uptime
Tech Challenges
The biggest challenge we faced with this project was its deadline. We literally had 14 days to complete the goal. Two weeks – and all for ultimate website development, effective UI/UX design, and a powerful marketing campaign. The timeline was this short due to the urgency of the entire situation – the need of a really good online supermarket was incredibly high. To beat competitors and enter the market when it’s really what customers are in keen need of, the client needed a reliable development and consulting team. To be ahead of competitors, Foodex24 should have some sort of killer feature. As the system uses extra services, the team conducted a lot of work on choosing proper third-party vendors to integrate their solution quickly and with proper quality. This includes integration of a payment system, warehouse control and accounting systems, and the 3rd-party delivery system. The team should also create the logistics system that covers order flow from creation to delivery, including program interfaces for warehouse staff, logistics, and accountants.
Core Functionality:
- Basic eCommerce
- Logistic system
- 3rd party delivery system integration
- Built-in delivery system
- Warehouse control and accounting integration
