Project description

We created a mobile app for iOS and Android platforms with simple functionality but great value for art lovers worldwide. The application allows finding the works of art within seconds by using text or voice search. The custom app database includes over 27 000 images of sculptures, paintings, pottery, music instruments, tablets, coats of arms, and other art objects. The application shows tips on how to use it to find exactly what you’re looking for. The custom search algorithm analyzes the request by keywords and ranks the results by the matching percentage.

Problem introduction

Our client came to our team with a product idea, ready-made design, and a desire to make classic and modern art closer to the people. The client requested our assistance in creating an advanced search algorithm that would show images relevant to the search request and sort them by the probability percentage. The admin panel had to be as intuitive as possible to simplify such processes as uploading the images to the database, classifying them by specific attributes so the algorithm could work with high precision and others.

Tech Challenges

The project wasn’t challenging for the team because it doesn’t have complex functionality. However, when we started working on the back-end and mobile parts of the product, the client saw that together we could upgrade the main algorithm and make it even better. Since the algorithm is the core functionality, other parts of the platform also had to be changed. Even though the algorithm upgrades affected the general project timeline and the final result delivery date, the outstanding quality of the algorithm, in the end, was worth it all.

Solution

Now, a person seeking an art object can simply enter words like “man with an apple and violin” in the search field and get the most relevant results from the 25 000 images database. We created an MVP version of the product, and even with the currently limited functionality, it has an outstanding value for individuals interested in art. In the future, it can be successfully implemented for the needs of museums and art galleries worldwide to optimize the processes like monitoring the art object location, creating catalogs, etc.

In addition to the cross-platform mobile app, we created a simple admin panel, where our client can add and store the images and filter them by attributes, keywords, and symbols. The combination of these three values allows the algorithm to find the most relevant images in the database.

We built the minimum viable product, and we made it flexible for smooth app upgrading in the future and filling it with valuable functionalities and features.
